The Highline Schools Foundation says 1,130 runners took part in the 17th annual Burien Brat Trot on Saturday, Oct. 3, with preliminary fundraising totals close to $40,000.
The top school teams were Hazel Valley Elementary with 197 members, Gregory Heights Elementary with 107 members, and Highline High School with 64 members, according to the foundation. The Highline boys track team volunteered at the event and ran as well.
“It was awesome to have so many high school student athletes there!” HSF Executive Director Fred Swanson told The B-Town Blog.
Members of the Highline Drill team and the Mount Rainier volleyball team also helped out.
Hazel Valley and Gregory Heights will each receive $150, and Hazel Valley will also get a pizza party. Soundview Strength was the top non-school team and will receive a party hosted by the foundation and The Brick Kitchen and Lounge in Renton.
