Can you believe it is July already? We had another record breaking sales day last Saturday; that makes 4 out of the first 5 market days of the season records. Bless the Sun God for this wonderful weather so early in the season. It was nice to see blueberries for the first time, look for fresh home grown fruits in the coming weeks. Food Truck Scene New this week is the one and only Ezell’s Famous Chicken. Ezell, with his recipe right out of America’s South and a genuine dedication to quality, has won the chicken-hungry hearts of Seattleites and people the world over! Esquire Magazine named Ezell’s Famous Chicken the most life-changing fried-chicken in America. Also serving up are the Fish Basket, Jemil’s Cajon and the Skinny Phoenix. Too see when the food vendors are at the market, log onto market vendors. Community Groups The Des Moines Art Commission will be manning their booth to inform people of all the upcoming summer events, including the Concerts in the Park and Shakespeare in the Park, just to name a few. Back again this week is American Homestay Network who will have a booth to present their program for international students to learn about American language and culture and to live with an American family, especially one that shares the student’s interests. Also back is King County Master Recycler Composters providing King County residents outside the City of Seattle with waste prevention and recycling information and tips they can use in their everyday lives. Don’t forget the Des Moines Area Food Bank “Picnic in the Park” continues their free summer lunch program for all school age kids. Look for them from noon to 1pm in the grassy area next to the marina office. And if you can’t wait until noon, there will free snacks from 10 to 10:30am. A child does not need to be a Highline Public School student to participate. They will be there every Saturday until school starts. If you would like to volunteer to help with this program, contact the Food Bank 206-878-2660. Upcoming events Alright all you Del Rivero wannabe’s, this is your time to shine. The first annual Farmers Market Kids Fishing Derby is coming on July 13th. Click here for rules and regulations.]]>
