Last weekend was a whirlwind of Waterland Festival activities. Congrats to all the volunteers who worked so hard to make it a fun three days for everyone! The Des Moines Police Foundation raffle sponsored by Delta Airlines and Disneyland, was won by a lucky market volunteer. Proceeds from the raffle and bake sale went to the Police Foundation’s Benevolent Fund. Community Group: WIC is a nutrition program that helps pregnant women, new mothers, and young children eat well, learn about nutrition and stay healthy. WIC is the “Federal Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children.” Eligible families can sign up this Saturday at their booth. Sunset Markets happen every Wednesday from 3-7pm in July and August. There is over 30 vendors and plenty of Food Trucks. Enjoy special guest speakers on different gardening tips at the Tent Talks series. After shopping and eating people can walk into the beach park and enjoy the Des Moines Art Commission’s free summer concerts at 7pm, check their web site for performers appearing.
Qualifying seniors can sign up and receive a $10 voucher every week for fruits and vegetables courtesy of the Farmers Market’s and King Conservation District’s healthy eating initiative. To see if you are eligible, check in at the information booth. Last Saturday saw 30 seniors start to enjoy this wonderful program that will go on all season. You can also sign up at our Wednesday Sunset Markets. The next Clutter to Cash Sale will be held August 15, 2015. You can sign up at the Information Booth or on our web site. Remember to sign up early as space is limited. You must provide your own table, chairs, canopy, etc. The Des Moines Area Food Bank kids free summer meals program is every Saturday at the market. Snacks are served from 10-11am and lunch from 11:30 to 1pm. There are also free meals at the Sunset Market. Snacks are from 3-4pm and dinner is 4:30 to 6:30pm.
