Des Moines United Methodist Church collecting food donations to help local families during shutdown

As the effects of the ongoing federal government shutdown continue to impact local families, Des Moines United Methodist Church is stepping up to support the Des Moines Area Food Bank, which operates out of the church’s building.

According to the church, the food bank is seeing a surge in demand following the temporary suspension of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.

To help meet the increased need, the church is collecting nonperishable food items Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at its office (map below).

Monetary donations are also being accepted and should be made payable directly to the Des Moines Area Food Bank; you may also donate online here:
