Get your puffy costumes and signs out! The first No Kings rally was June 14 of last year. By then, Seniors for the Constitution and Des Moines Indivisible had been holding rallies for three months to encourage people to express how they felt about President Trump flouting the rule of law and overstepping his authority.
Since then, things have progressed to the point that well over 50% of Americans feel our democracy is truly in a state of crisis. Of course, there are those who are perfectly happy with how everything’s going. They are in favor of ICE breaking car windows and dragging children, elderly and American citizens off to “concentration camps” without any due process. And they apparently don’t mind paying over $5 for gas now that America has chosen to go to war with Iran over – which reason again? And they have conveniently forgotten Trump’s campaign promises to lower grocery prices on Day One.
Those are just a few of the many reasons why it is necessary for We the People to show up in even greater numbers for the No Kings III rally. Des Moines’ second, held on Oct. 18, 2025, drew 2,000. We are aiming for 3,000 this time. And we want to be part of the official US count, to demonstrate to the administration that we want to keep our freedoms and we will be voting pro-democracy in November! Please go to www.Indivisible.org and register to be part of this event. You don’t have to stay for the entire two hours (Noon- 2 pm), but your voice is important!
Stop by the plaza before you find a spot along Marine View Drive:
- The League of Women Voters will have a table to register people to vote.
- Remember to bring cash donations that the Des Moines Food Bank can stretch farther and cater to our neighbors’ needs.
- Whistle kits (a simple alert system to let people nearby know that ICE is in the area) will be available.
- There will be a memorial table in honor of everyone who has perished under ICE care since January 2025.
