Hi-Liners Musical Theatre (HMT) invites audiences to journey “somewhere over the rainbow” as tickets are now on sale for its upcoming production of “The Wizard of Oz” Youth Edition, reimagined through a vibrant, folk art lens.

Opening this Friday night, May 1 at Highline College, this unique production transforms the beloved classic into a visually rich, music-filled experience inspired by American folk traditions.

Audiences can expect a whimsical world brought to life with handmade textures, imaginative staging, and design elements drawn from Dorothy’s Kansas home.

Performed by a talented cast of local youth, “The Wizard of Oz Youth Edition” tells the timeless story of Dorothy and her journey through Oz alongside the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion. Along the way, audiences are reminded that courage, heart, and home are closer than they appear.

“This production is about creativity, community, and reimagining a classic in a way that feels both nostalgic and completely new,” said HMT Artistic Director Kathleen Edwards. “Our students have poured so much heart into building this world.”

HMT, a nonprofit youth theatre serving the South King County community, continues its mission to make high-quality performing arts accessible to young people of all backgrounds, including through its expanding scholarship program for summer camps.
