Mount Rainier Pool will remain closed through Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, after a critical failure of one of the facility’s pool circulation pumps, according to pool officials.
Technicians inspected the failed pump and determined it could not be repaired and must be replaced, the pool said in a public update. Officials said the circulation system is essential for safe pool operations, forcing the cancellation of all programs and facility activities during the closure.
The pool said it is working with service providers to move the replacement process forward “as quickly as possible,” but officials do not yet have a confirmed reopening date beyond Memorial Day.
Mount Rainier Pool serves communities across South King County, including Burien, Des Moines, SeaTac, Normandy Park, White Center and Tukwila, offering swim lessons, fitness programs and recreational swimming opportunities throughout the year.
Officials said the next operational update will be provided on the evening of Monday, May 25, regarding the facility’s status for Tuesday, May 26.
“We apologize for the disruption and appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to safely reopen the facility,” the pool said in its statement.
