Residents can help stock the shelves of the Des Moines Area Food Bank while taking aim at local elected officials during the city’s “Dunk a Councilmember!” fundraiser during the 4th of July activities this Saturday at the Marina.

According to the City of Des Moines, community members who bring a qualifying donation will receive three chances to throw at the dunk tank, with proceeds and donations benefiting the Des Moines Area Food Bank.

To participate, attendees are asked to bring one of several requested donations, including peanut butter, canned fruits and vegetables, tuna, cereal, macaroni and cheese, spices, dog or cat food, diapers in sizes 3 through 6, or a cash donation of $5 or more.

Dunk Schedule

The dunk tank schedule includes:

  • 11:50 a.m.: Robyn Desimone
  • 12:15 p.m.: Gene Achziger
  • 12:40 p.m.: Harry Steinmetz
  • 1:05 p.m.: Pierre Blosse

Each donation earns participants three throws at the dunk tank.
