Last Saturday’s 4th of July weekend saw the second biggest crowd of the season at the Des Moines Waterfront Farmers Market – over 5,000 shoppers enjoyed pleasant weather, lively music and best of all, fruits of the season are showing up for the first time as well as sweet corn on the cob! Since opening day I am surprised at the number of people I talk with that are new to town in last few months. That is a sign that our community is growing and people are realizing what a gem we have here on the sound. You’re in for a treat this coming Saturday. Rhyme Time – Rosebud Children’s Theatre will be performing. Words are so much fun to say and sing – especially when they sound alike! Want to sound like Dr. Seuss? Come see what all the fuss is about in this new mini-musical by Holly Rose. Performed by youngsters ages 4-7. The Wednesday night Sunset Markets are under way. They are every Wednesday in July and August from 4 to 8pm. There will be food trucks, farms and lots of goodies. Then you can stroll over to the Beach Park for the free music in the park series brought to you by the Des Moines Art Commission.
New Vendors – Soda Jerk on Sat and Seattle Bakery (dog food truck) on Wed. Music – 5 Buck Band Food Trucks – Charlie’s Buns N Stuff, Jemil’s, Kabob & Kabob, Mini the Dough-Nut, Nibbles, Sweet BumpasCommunity Groups – This Saturday the Friends of the Des Moines Library will have a booth, and will have books for sale. Bargain prices: $1.00 for hardbacks, $.50 for paperbacks. Also for sale are book bags. All proceeds go to supporting children and teen programs at the Des Moines and Woodmont Libraries. Attention seniors (55 and older), when you shop at the market, check in at the information both to see if you qualify for our Healthy Eating Initiative.
