With a high of 75 and clear skies predicted for Friday (Aug. 3), a heat wave of Latin rhythms is headed for Advertiser Cedarbrook Lodge, SeaTac’s hidden jewel of a resort that will play host to ‘Jazz on the Lawn’ this Friday, Aug. 3. The climate should be perfect for enjoying an evening out of doors at the third outdoor concert, which runs from 6:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. Whether patio dining, sipping a cool cocktail or simply chilling on the lodge’s lush lawn, guests will be entranced by the sultry Afro-Cuban sounds of Sonando. The expansive instrumental ensemble has been performing for more than two decades, with a cast of mainstay performers and a variety of rotating guests. The group relies on founder Fred Hoadley’s piano as a backbone for many selections in their repertoire, but Hoadley also lends his talents to the tres, a Cuban style guitar with three courses of double strings, which gives a distinctly rich sound to the band’s most recent recording aptly named Tres. Selections on the recording range from traditional tunes, such as “Soima” to the lively “Bombella (Abdullah Ibrahim)” to the subtle cha-cha interpretation of Victor Young’s “Delilah.” Here’s a video taste of what to expect: Along with the soothing sounds, guests can charm their palates with gourmet small plates, local wines and beers available from Copperleaf’s cash bar. Tickets for the concerts are available from Brown Paper Tickets and are $20 advance or $25 at the door.
