What a gorgeous day last Saturday, sunny with a cooling breeze off the water. Even with the Huskies at home and the opening of the Puyallup Fair (yes, we ol timers still like to call it that) there was still lot of shoppers stocking up for the coming week! Here is my tip for the week: I am a bread freak (sliced) and I call in my order to the Snohomish Bakery on Friday and the order is delivered by Ingrid on Saturday. That way you never have to worry about them running out of your favorites. Here is their number: 360-568-1682. Need I say more about this Saturday; all your favorite truck chefs will be there to treat you to a fabulous lunch or a take home dinner! This Special Day is one of the biggest of the season. The Des Moines Police Foundation will have a booth to tell people about its future plans for funding projects and showing their logo wear. All net proceeds go to the Foundation’s Bereavement Fund dedicated to aiding an officer’s family should tragedy strike. South King Fire & Rescue will be instructing two sessions of “hands only” CPR and AED training in the grassy area. Come learn how to save a life! The sessions will be held at 11am and 1pm. The cost is free. For more information email CAO@Southkingfire.org. Tonya Seaberry, community service officer, from the Des Moines Police Department will be focusing on personal safety with a couple of new projects: “Take Me Home” and “TrackMole.” Stop by the Des Moines Legacy Foundation Note Card booth and pick up a $1 raffle ticket to win a limited edition of artist Nancy Bogni’s award winning watercolor print titled “The Work Horse.” Winner will be drawn at the Senior Activity Center Give Thanks Luncheon on Wednesday, November 19, 2014. All proceeds support the many programs and services at the Des Moines Senior/Activity Center. Don’t forget the Senior Services Hyde Shuttle is available again this Saturday and every other Saturday thru the end of October. The shuttle provides door to door transportation to the market for seniors 55 and older and those with disabilities of all ages living in Des Moines, Normandy Park and Burien from 11am-2pm. To make your reservation, call 206-727-6262. You can sign your team up for the 8th Annual Chili Cook-Off. It is held on the last day of the season (Oct 25th).
