SAVE THE DATE: Residents in Des Moines will have an opportunity to safely dispose of sensitive documents during a 22 community shredding event on Wednesday, April 22 hosted by the City of Des Moines.

According to the city, the shredding event will be held Wednesday, April 22, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Des Moines Activity Center (map below).

The event is open to all residents and allows participants to securely shred common personal documents such as receipts, bills, file folders, envelopes, bank statements and cancelled checks. Staples are permitted with the documents.  

City officials note that several materials will not be accepted for shredding, including cardboard, newspapers, boxes, X-rays and plastic items.  

The shredding event is intended to help residents protect personal information by safely destroying documents that may contain sensitive data.
