Mount Rainier High School football is kicking off the 2024 season with new energy under head coach Quincy Carter, starting with the inaugural “Waterfront Cup” against Highline High School this Friday night, Sept. 6, at Highline Memorial Stadium in Burien.

Coach Carter is focused on fostering stronger community involvement, including the launch of the “Ram Zone,” a pre-game, non-alcoholic tailgate event for families and supporters.

The Ram Zone will feature food, games, and exclusive Game Day T-shirts, from 5–6:40 p.m., with kickoff at 7 p.m.

The Ram Zone, located on the west side of Highline Stadium, aims to build school spirit by connecting the community with the football program.

The Game Day T-shirts will be available exclusively at the Ram Zone, with plans to introduce hoodies and hats later in the season. Each shirt will feature a unique color depending on the game, with the first shirt priced at just $7:

In addition to this week’s match, the Ram Zone will be held at home games throughout the season, including Week 2 against South Kitsap, Week 5 during Homecoming, and Week 9 for Senior Night against Kennedy Catholic.

“I’m ecstatic for the season and to see the Mount Rainier community grow and support each other this year,” Coach Carter told The Waterland Blog. “The students have put in the work, stayed the course and truly empowering each other to improve every day.

“This year as a staff we wanted to establish a new culture and understanding of growth while we still respect everyone that came before us. I tell the kids that coaches express the expectations of everyone involved with the program, but students set the tone and standard.

“I’m excited for the standard they have set for the season. GO RAMS!”
