The Des Moines Police Department is launching a new community clean up initiative this November focused on clearing public rights of way and removing abandoned or inoperable vehicles from city streets.
The effort is centered around on-street parking, with community awareness and action in November, and enforcement set to begin in December, according to information released by the city.
The initiative, titled Community Clean Up Initiative Clear the Right of Way, asks residents to help keep neighborhoods safe, welcoming and accessible by addressing vehicles that block streets or are no longer operational.
The campaign emphasizes that clear streets improve visibility for drivers and pedestrians, help emergency vehicles move freely and support neighborhood pride.
Residents are encouraged to move or repair any inoperable vehicles parked on the street, avoid parking trailers, recreational vehicles or boats on the public right of way, and invite neighbors to join the effort.
The city notes that every block that participates contributes to cleaner, safer streets for the Des Moines community and surrounding South King County areas.
Community members who want more information or wish to get involved can contact the Des Moines Police Department at (206) 878-3301.
