Vehicle owners in Des Moines can take advantage of a new initiative aimed at preventing car thefts – the Des Moines Police Department is distributing free steering wheel locks to owners of the most frequently stolen vehicle brands in the area.
The event will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2024, from 2 – 5 p.m. at the Des Moines Police Department’s Redondo Square Substation located at 27013 Pacific Highway South (map below).
Vehicle owners of following vehicles are eligible for the free steering wheel locks:
- Hyundai
- Kia
- Chevrolet
- Ford
- Toyota
Attendees must bring proof of ownership to receive a lock.
Supplies are limited, so early arrival is encouraged.
“Stay safe, Des Moines! Let’s work together to protect our community,” the police department urged in their announcement.
