Residents looking to responsibly dispose of household items and recyclables can take advantage of the Des Moines Spring Recycling Collection Event on Saturday, March 22, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Des Moines Marina (south lot).
This annual event provides an opportunity for community members to recycle a variety of materials that are not typically accepted in curbside bins.
Items such as tires, lead-acid batteries, appliances, scrap metal, electronics, and more will be collected.
Some items require a cash-only disposal fee.
Accepted Items Include:
- Electronics & Computer Equipment (printers/copiers: $5 fee)
- TV Sets (no charge)
- Tires (up to 6 free; additional fees apply)
- Lead-Acid Batteries (car, truck, marine, motorcycle)
- Alkaline Batteries (standard household sizes)
- Propane Tanks ($10 fee)
- Porcelain Toilets & Sinks ($25 fee)
- Appliances & Scrap Metal (some fees apply)
- Refrigerators & Freezers ($35 fee)
- Bulky Wood (logs, branches, plywood, untreated wood)
- Mattresses & Box Springs ($35 per item)
Items not accepted at the event include household goods, furniture, garbage, construction debris, hazardous chemicals, and motor oil.
Rain Barrel & Compost Bin Sale
To promote sustainable home practices, the City of Des Moines will also offer rain barrels, compost bins, and worm bins for sale at the event for $25 each (cash only, while supplies last).

- ⏳ No vehicle entry after 3 p.m.
The event is made possible through funding from the Washington State Department of Ecology, King County Solid Waste Division, Hazardous Waste Management Program, and E-Cycle Washington.
