Des Moines kicks off holiday season with annual Tree Lighting event at Big Catch Plaza is Friday night, Dec. 6

Destination Des Moines, residents and even Santa himself will usher in the season with the annual Holiday Tree Lighting event at Big Catch Plaza on Friday night, Dec. 6, 2024, from 5 to 7 p.m.

The centerpiece of the celebration will be the lighting of the holiday tree, set to take place at 6 p.m.

The festive event, held in the heart of the Waterland community, invites residents and visitors to come together for an evening of seasonal cheer.

Attendees can enjoy complimentary hot cocoa and cookies while singing and dancing to classic holiday tunes.

Children and families will also have the opportunity to meet Santa Claus and capture a special holiday moment with him.
