Memorial for local icon Bj Bjorneby set for Sunday, July 20 at Des Moines Yacht Club

Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of local icon Bj Bjorneby on Sunday, July 20, 2025, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Des Moines Yacht Club.

Sadly, Bj passed away on April 28, 2025.

He was the former owner of Bjorneby’s Carstar, was deeply involved in local civic activities, and was married for nearly 68 years to his wife Anna, who passed away in October, 2024.

A longtime member of the Des Moines community, Bjorneby will also be honored during the Waterland Parade the day prior, on Saturday, July 19, with several classic cars featured in the procession.

The memorial event is open to all who knew Bj or were impacted by his life and legacy.

Organizers say the celebration will reflect Bjorneby’s deep love of community, cars and connection.
