Saltwater Collective co-owner to speak at North Hill Community Club

October 13 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Shiela Owens, co-owner of the new Saltwater Collective in Des Moines, will be the guest speaker at the North Hill Community Club’s meeting at 7 p.m. this Tuesday night, Oct. 13.

The meeting will take place at the clubhouse, 20827 3rd Ave South (map below).

Saltwater Collective is a new marketplace and gathering space in Des Moines that emphasizes locally owned and independent businesses, according to its Facebook page. Alongside gifts and other goods, it plans a small bookstore focused on Pacific Northwest authors, history, nature and settings.

The North Hill Community Club serves the North Hill neighborhood and surrounding areas of Des Moines.

The club has longstanding ties to the neighborhood. In the early 1950s, it was known as the North Hill and Normandy Vista Community Club, serving a growing residential area, according to the Des Moines Historical Society.

The historical society describes the club’s service area as extending from South 192nd Street to South 216th Street, between 1st Ave South and Des Moines Memorial Drive. Its clubhouse has served as a polling location, and a field south of the building has provided space for community activities.

More information about the organization is available at northhillcc.org.
