A free community event celebrating “Emery the Emergency Penguin” will take place Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the MaST Aquarium at Redondo in Des Moines, according to event organizers.

The event marks the 11th birthday of the 911 education mascot and will include activities focused on safety awareness for families across South King County.

Organizers said attendees are invited to “learn about safety, participate in Emery’s Safety Scavenger Hunt, and celebrate our telecommunicators for all they do.”

The event will feature participation from several local partners, including Des Moines Police, TriMed, OEM, DEA, search and rescue teams and others.

New Emery-themed storybooks, coloring books and additional materials will also be released during the event.
