Here’s how you can help chart the course for the City of Des Moines

Help Chart the Course for the City of Des Moines

The City of Des Moines is inviting all Des Moines residents to help chart the course of their city’s future.

This fall, the City began the process of developing a five-year strategic plan. A strategic plan is like a map to guide City decisions, investments, and services. It captures the community’s shared vision for the future and lays out goals and priorities to make that vision real.

Built by the Community, for the Community

Community voice is the key to a strategic plan that works. The plan is not the City’s plan, it is the community’s plan. The most important voices in this process are yours: what you care about, what you want to see, and what you think Des Moines should become.

In October, the City hosted five focus groups where community members shared their ideas, hopes and priorities.

Now all residents are invited to complete a survey to share their thoughts. The survey link is being shared on the city website and Facebook page, and through local schools and organizations.

Take the survey now:

There are two other ways you can participate:

Pop-Up Input Sessions

Members of the Des Moines Citizens Advisory Board will be hosting informal feedback sessions. Look for these volunteers at community events and gathering places.

Town Hall Meeting – December 9

Come together with neighbors and city leaders to talk about the future of Des Moines. Everyone is welcome.

How Your Input Will Be Used

After gathering community input, the City Council and staff—working with an independent planning consultant—will build a framework of goals and strategies that reflect your priorities.

The City will share out the plan with the community, and ultimately, the City Council will vote to adopt the plan.

Take part in Charting Our Course and help create the future you want for Des Moines.
