Kent Des Moines light rail station opening celebration set for Saturday, Dec. 6

by EditorNovember 25, 2025November 25, 2025

A celebration marking the opening of the new Sound Transit Kent Des Moines light rail station will take place Saturday, Dec. 6, from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., according to event information shared by the Seattle Southside Chamber of Commerce and the Kent Chamber of Commerce.

The free, family friendly event will feature seven themed gardens with art, history exhibits, food trucks, live performances, youth activities and community resource booths.

The invitation encourages attendees to ride transit to the event and participate in what organizers call a historic milestone for the region’s transportation network.

The new station serves Highline College and the surrounding Kent Des Moines corridor.

The event is presented by Sound Transit in partnership with the Seattle Southside Chamber of Commerce, Kent Chamber of Commerce, Highline College, the Seattle Thunderbirds, Mount Rainier Pool and the Des Moines Legacy Foundation.

The celebration will be held near the new Kent Des Moines Station adjacent to Highline College.

All activities are free and open to the public.
