Authorities have identified the man killed in a fatal pedestrian hit-and-run on May 22 as Marco Antonio Cruz Cuenca, 41, of Kent, according to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office.

As we previously reported, the incident occurred at the intersection of South 240th Street and Pacific Highway South, where Cruz Cuenca sustained multiple blunt force injuries after being struck on the roadway.

Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses told officers the vehicle involved fled the area following the collision. A short time later, Des Moines Police located the suspect vehicle near the 26000 block of 20th Avenue South with visible front-end damage. Inside were the driver and three passengers.

The driver, a 32-year-old Seattle man, was arrested and booked into jail for vehicular homicide. Kent Police said it is still unknown whether intoxication played a role in the crash.

The Kent Police Department is leading the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. As of Friday, May 23, no further details have been released regarding potential contributing factors or whether any other parties were involved.

Cruz Cuenca’s death marks another tragic loss on South King County’s roads and has drawn renewed attention to pedestrian safety along the busy Pacific Highway corridor.
