Witnesses told officers the vehicle involved — a silver SUV — fled the area following the collision. A short time later, Des Moines Police located the suspect vehicle near the 26000 block of 20th Avenue South with visible front-end damage. Inside were the driver and three passengers.

The passengers, all Federal Way residents ages 26, 30, and 35, cooperated with the investigation and confirmed the driver had struck the pedestrian.

The driver, a 32-year-old Seattle man, was arrested and booked into jail for vehicular homicide. Kent Police said it is still unknown whether intoxication played a role in the crash.

“The Kent Police Traffic Unit was called out to conduct the investigation,” officials said. “They will be examining all the circumstances that led up to the accident.”

The suspect vehicle was impounded and towed to a secure facility for further examination.
