Organizers are reminding Waterland Festival visitors, residents and downtown businesses to plan for traffic and parking restrictions this Saturday, July 18, during the Waterland Parade and related festivities.

Officials said that parade staging on 7th Ave South is expected to begin around 4 p.m. between the area behind Dollar Tree and about South 225th Street. During staging, street parking will not be available and Seventh Avenue South will be closed to through traffic, with local access only.

Most homes and businesses will remain reachable by 6th Ave South or the adjacent alley, the city said. Seafair marshals and volunteers will be available to safely escort residents and businesses that need access.

The 7th Ave South closure is expected to last about three hours. The street will reopen once the parade has passed, according to the city.

The city also said street parking on Marine View Drive South will be closed all day, as in previous years, to prepare for the parade and festival activities.

Post-Parade Block Party

After the parade, the Downtown Block Party will continue in front of the Waterland Arcade and Des Moines Theater until 10 p.m. The event is expected to include live music, food, a beer garden, family activities and more, according to the city.

Parade routes, event schedules, parking information and details about Waterland Festival weekend are available at waterlandfestival.org.
