Mount Rainier’s football Rams were held scoreless Friday night, Oct. 9, as Kennedy Catholic’s Lancers defeated the Rams 48-0 in a home conference football game.

The loss dropped Mount Rainier to 4-2 overall, while Kennedy Catholic improved to 5-1.

The Rams faced an early deficit after the Lancers scored 21 points in the first quarter. Kennedy Catholic added seven in the second to take a 28-0 halftime lead, according to the game’s box score.

Mount Rainier could not close the gap after halftime. The Lancers scored 13 points in the third quarter and seven in the fourth.

Both teams were coming off 48-point scores in their most previous games, so the excitement for an offensive matchup was high.

The Rams faced a Kennedy Catholic defense that has allowed just 31 points through six games this season, an average of 5.2 per game. The Lancers have recorded three shutouts, including consecutive victories over Auburn and Mount Rainier.

Mount Rainier next travels to Kentwood for a conference game at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17.
