Opening Day is this Saturday (June 7) for the Des Moines Waterfront Farmers Market! Joining the many regular vendors will be some new ones, along with the Truck-In, with 12 delicious menus to choose from. And, don’t forget to taste and pick up your supply of Farmers Market Cabernet and Riesling wines for your summer BBQs. While at the booth, sign up for door prizes of wine glasses, cork screws, etc. Look for the Rotary blue canopy where the Highline Music4Life program is collecting used musical instruments for refurbishing and giving them to Highline School students who are not able to afford them. They will be at the market every Saturday in June. South King Fire & Rescue will be manning their booth to promote fire safety in the home. And of course, Dick Body will be there with the antique fire engine. The Des Moines Police Department will be holding a Coffee with a Cop session. So stop by and say hello to the officer that patrols your neighborhood. Music will be provided by shopper’s favorite Saltwater Saints. Take a break from shopping and check out the new sculptures The Des Moines Arts Commission added to the South Compass Rose area. Dedication for these new additions is scheduled for June 21st at 11am. Here are some more special groups you will find this Saturday: Sounders Women, Mt Rainer Pool, MaST, King County Composters, CleanScapes Recology and Des Moines Parks and Recreation. You seniors don’t forget that the market and the Rotary Club of Des Moines, along with partner Senior Services, are offering the HYDE Shuttle, providing local door to door transportation to the market to seniors 55 and older and the disabled of all ages living in Des Moines, Normandy Park and Burien. To keep up with all the special events, featuring what’s fresh and entertainment at the market, please log onto the website and sign up for the e-newsletter that comes out once a week.
