A six-week road closure is scheduled for a portion of 16th Ave South in Des Moines beginning Tuesday, April 14, 2026, according to the City of Des Moines.
The closure will remain in place through Tuesday, May 26, and will affect 16th Ave South between South 250th Street and 14th Place South (map below).
City officials said the closure is necessary to install a sewer force main underneath the North Twin Bridge over the North Fork of McSorely Creek.
A detour will be in place directing drivers around the work site and over to Marine View Drive.
Residents who live within the closure area will continue to have access to their homes, but vehicles will not be permitted to travel across the bridge during the construction period.
