South King County residents will soon be able to ride light rail farther south when the Federal Way Link Extension opens Dec. 6, and Sound Transit and Highline College will host an Informational Fair this Thursday, Oct. 9 to help the community prepare.
The free, family-friendly event will run from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. this Thursday in Highline College’s Student Union Building (map below).
Attendees will hear updates on the extension, which will add three new stations connecting Federal Way, Kent and Des Moines to the Link light rail system that currently ends in SeaTac.
Organizers said the expansion will provide faster, more reliable and more affordable travel options, making it easier for South King County commuters to reach downtown Seattle and beyond.
The event will also feature information about Highline College resources, as well as opportunities to sign up for reduced-fare ORCA cards, free youth ORCA cards for riders 18 and under, and other transit programs.
“This project is a big step forward for our students to have greater access to King County,” said Josh Gerstman, Highline College vice president for institutional advancement. “We’re excited to celebrate with the community and share how light rail will improve daily travel options for community members in the area.”
The Info Fair is family-friendly and free to attend, and everyone is welcome.
