The Des Moines Memorial Drive Preservation Association and American Legion Post 134 will host their annual Veteran’s Day observance on Monday, Nov. 11, at Sunnydale Elementary School, located in Burien (map below).
The event will begin with a gathering at 10:45 a.m., with the official ceremony starting at 11:00 a.m. to honor the time World War I ended—the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.
This year, Brian Trautman and the Exchange Club of Highline will join the ceremony. Attendees will also hear a special performance of the national anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner,” by local singer Kate Bysheim, whom organizers describe as a “treasure.”
“We are grateful to our community partners, including Transform Burien, who always step up to help,” organizer Rose Clark said. “Paul Ott of Transform Burien continues to provide tables and chairs for the event, ensuring we are well-supported.”
The event will feature guest speaker Chris Plyman from the American Legion. Following the ceremony, attendees are invited to stay inside the school for displays, refreshments, and the opportunity to connect with fellow community members.
The Veteran’s Day observance honors the sacrifices of military service members and commemorates the end of World War I, often referred to as “the war to end all wars.”
