Knock on wood, the sun keeps on shin’n on us. Another glorious day last Saturday brought out a lot of shoppers, and diners enjoyed the great music from the Notables while picnicing on the grass. In case you haven’t seen it yet, Carmen Scott’s framed photo “Reflections,” on display at the Wine Booth, could be had for only a $1 chance raffle. All proceeds will go towards the Market Foundation. The drawing will take place during the Chili Cook-Off on October 31st. You do not need to be present to win. The market is happy to be a sponsor of The Legacy Foundation and The Des Moines Arts Commission’s Poverty Bay Arts Gala this coming Saturday at the Beach Park Event Center from 6 to 10pm. There will be food, wine, and entertainment and art auctions. Proceeds from the event will support the Free Music Concerts in the Park series next summer. Hot of the press is my Cooking with Wine Cookbook holding all my recipes and cooking with wine guide you’ve seen at the Wine booth. The Cookbook makes a fine Christmas Gift and only costs $5. All proceeds go to the Market Foundation. Music: Lip Service Food Trucks: Curb Jumper Street Eats, Nibbles, Mini the Dough Nut, Peasant Food Manifesto Community Groups: MRHS Boys Basketball, Pacific Middle School Band and MR Pool It’s so great to see all the green Healthy Eating shopping bags being filled every Saturday. It is a sign that this program is making a difference to so many people in our community. So far this season the market has issued over $7,000 thru this program. The program issues weekly free $10 vouchers for qualifying seniors. This program is brought to you by partners, the Des Moines Farmers Market and King Conservation District. The vouchers are good for fruits, vegetables and processed food products (bakery items, etc). If you know someone who may qualify, please have them come to the information booth to sign up. There are only two spots left for our annual Chili Cook-Off. If you think you have the best chili recipe around, pick up an application at the information booth or go online to download the application. There is room for only 10 teams this year, so get in gear! Also, don’t forget HYDE Shuttle is providing local door to door transportation to the market for seniors 55 and older and people with disabilities of all ages living in Des Moines, Normandy Park, Burien and this year Sea-Tac.
