Opening Day for the Des Moines Waterfront Farmers Market was absolutely spectacular – the sun was shining and the waters glimmered….. and people kept pouring in, creating a record day for visitors, 8,000+ and record sales! A lot of vendors ran out of food and merchandise, not expecting such a huge crowd. Thank you to all the hard working volunteers, sponsors and vendors who made this such a successful opening to our market. Be sure to seek out our new food vendor from Normandy Park, Can’t Stop Smackin Tommy Walker turned his love of cooking southern cuisine into Can’t Stop Smackin’, a Southern Inspired restaurant with a Pacific Northwest kick. Having owned a restaurant in the past, Tommy with the help of his wife, Jerrie, continued to create fantastic barbeque, fried seafood and chicken and awesome sauces. Jerrie is known for inventing out of this world sides and delicious desserts. You’ve got to taste the Sweet Potato Pie…YUM Music – Boomerang (formerly Flannel Asparagus) Food Trucks – Curb Jumper Street Eats Community Groups – Marilyn Milano, local pianist, composer, pianist, singer and animal lover will be on site with her “Love Has Many Faces” Animal Rescue CDs as well as “Musings”, a solo piano CD, and illustrated t shirts.
