At the Des Moines Waterfront Farmers Market it looks like we will always have to put up with cloudy, cool and windy mornings until the sun comes out. But, that did not stop the determined shoppers from getting their goodies! And – did you see the fresh organic eggs at new vendor Top Market Trading & Farm? We tried them this weekend in a frittata, pure wow! We need your help. The market is trying to be waste free and at the same time save money. As a non-profit entity, we need to save anywhere we can. One way to do this is making sure everyone uses the trash/recycled receptacles correctly. We are not charged for disposing of compostable or recyclable materials, so the less garbage we have the more money we save. Thank you for your attention to this matter. This Saturday is our annual Health & Fitness Day where you can meet some local practitioners who promote healthy and safe fitness programs. This year’s participants include SeaMar Community Health Centers, Lynn Mikel ND-Naturopathic Medicine, Matt Griffin from YMCA, Des Moines Nutrition, Mt Rainier Pool & Lymphedema Challenger The Rotary Club of Des Moines and Normandy Park has a booth every Saturday to promote their Annual Poverty Bay Blues and Brews Festival. The festival this year is on August 27th at the Beach Park. At the booth you can buy your discount tickets in advance ($30, $35 at the door). You can also enter a raffle for two Alaska Airline round trip tickets, cooking classes at Eat Local and season pass ($1,000) to Centerstage in Federal Way. The proceeds benefit the Highline Music 4 Life program which put instruments in the hands of kids who otherwise might not be able to afford them.
