Detectives are asking for witnesses after a drive by shooting on northbound I-5 that Washington State Patrol (WSP) says began as a road rage incident in the Tukwila area and left a driver hospitalized.
Police said that at around Noon on Wednesday, Jan. 14, WSP communications received a 911 call reporting a shooting on I 5.
The victim said the incident started as a road rage encounter on northbound I-5 in the Tukwila area and that shots were fired on northbound I-5 near the West Seattle Freeway.
The victim told dispatchers they had been struck and had moved off the freeway to Denny Way and Fairview Avenue in Seattle.
Seattle Police contacted the victim and Seattle Fire Department medics assessed injuries.
The driver was taken to Harborview Medical Center in stable condition, Troopers said.
The suspect vehicle was described as a dark blue Oldsmobile minivan. The victim said the person who fired the shots was in the front passenger seat and described the shooter as a heavyset Black male, the patrol said.

WSP detectives are seeking anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or the vehicles before the shooting to email Detective Judah Bergeron at Judah.Bergeron@wsp.wa.gov, the agency said.
Troopers also reported that a second gunshot victim was dropped off at Harborview around the same time, but detectives determined the two shootings were completely separate incidents.
