WEATHER: National Weather Service issues Heat Advisory, with highs expected in upper 80s and 90s this weekend

On Wednesday, July 3, 2024, the National Weather Service (NWS) issued a Heat Advisory, which will go in effect starting at Noon this Friday, July 5 to 10 p.m. on Monday, July 8, 2024.

NWS predicts “hot conditions with temperatures in the upper 80s and 90s expected,” which will post a moderate to major risk of heat-related illness.

“This level of heat will significantly increase the risk of heat-related illnesses for much of the population, especially those who are heat sensitive and those without effective cooling or adequate hydration,” NWS said.

Temps are predicted to get as high as 93 on Sunday before cooling down Tuesday to around 86.

…HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM NOON FRIDAY TO 10 PM PDT MONDAY…

WHAT…Hot conditions with temperatures in the upper 80s and 90s
expected. This will pose a moderate to major risk of heat-related
illness.

WHERE…Portions of northwest and west central Washington.

WHEN…From noon Friday to 10 PM PDT Monday.

IMPACTS…This level of heat will significantly increase the risk
of heat-related illnesses for much of the population, especially
those who are heat sensitive and those without effective cooling
or adequate hydration.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Temperatures will remain well above normal
next week with only gradual cooling expected.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and
pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any
circumstances.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible.
To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and
Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in
shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat
should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an
