A woman in her 20s was hospitalized with a gunshot wound on Saturday afternoon, July 4, after a shooting near Midway Park in Des Moines, according to the Des Moines Police Department.

Police said officers were dispatched at about 2:21 p.m. after receiving several 911 calls reporting a shooting in the 22100 block of 28th Ave South near Midway Park (map below).

While officers were responding, the victim drove herself to a nearby restaurant, where officers and medics contacted her, according to police. She had sustained a gunshot wound to the shoulder and was transported to a local hospital.

Police said she is in stable condition.

Investigators have not determined a motive for the shooting, the department said.

Officers and detectives remained at the scene Saturday afternoon processing evidence and interviewing witnesses.

Police said the investigation remains active.
