Overnight paving work begins tonight (Wednesday, June 11, 2025) on a two-mile section of State Route 99 between South 200th Street in SeaTac and SR 516 in Des Moines, the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) announced.
The project, aimed at improving both pavement quality and ADA compliance, will continue through the weekend.
No work is scheduled for the week of June 16, but construction is expected to resume on Sunday night, June 22.
Crews are grinding away the existing asphalt and laying down a new surface, which WSDOT says will extend the life of the roadway and provide a smoother drive.
According to the agency, work will take place primarily during overnight hours, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., Saturday through Friday mornings, and is expected to last about two months.
Additional impacts include:
- Ongoing paving between S. 200th and S. 208th streets through Friday morning, June 13.
- A closure of S. 224th Street at southbound SR 99 for ADA-compliant sidewalk construction from Friday night, June 13, through Monday morning, June 16.
- Lane closures, detours, limited driveway access, and increased noise and vibration in the work zone.
“Signed detours will guide people around closures,” WSDOT stated in its notice.
