This Saturday, July 20, will be a great time to check out all the great things our community of Des Moines offers, with a very busy, full day of events, including:
- Pancake Breakfast at the Farmer’s Market
- Classic Car Show on the north end of the Des Moines Marina
- Have lunch and shop the Des Moines Waterfront Farmers Market
- Then see the Des Moines Waterland Parade!
The Children’s Parade sets up and begins in the lower parking lot behind the Yard Arm Tavern. If you and your family would like to walk the Parade you can sign up starts at 3:30pm on the day of the Parade. Participants will need to fill out a form (
click here for PDF) in order to be in the Parade. The form is listed with the Parade Application.
The Children’s Parade kicks off our Grand Parade and starts the Parade Route from their location at 5:45pm.
The Parade for Hunger is also a big part of the Waterland Parade – bring non-perishable food items to the Parade and give it directly to the Des Moines Area Food Bank as they pass by you in the Parade! You can also make monetary donations to fill their treasure chest. All donations go directly to their organization.
Staging for the parade will take place at the Landmark on the Sound, which will give participants a chance to experience this grand 1920s Mansion that was used for the recent filming of “The Maury Island Incident.”

Also, the judging of the Parade will be done this year by the IOOF – Des Moines Odd Fellows Lodge #305.

Another parade that the city cannot afford. Bah Humbug!
WOW….some ghosts need to visit you and soon.
This parade was very disappointing and the absence of the organization skills of the Bjorneby team was glaringly visible. There was too much space between units and only one really good band. Maybe next year? I don’t think the city was responsible as the parade was put on by all volunteers.
