A 31-year-old man was shot and killed early Sunday, Sept. 20 in Des Moines, prompting a homicide investigation and the closure of a portion of Marine View Drive South, according to the Des Moines Police Department.
Officers responded at about 1:55 a.m. to a reported shooting in the 22300 block of Marine View Drive South downtown (map below).
When officers arrived, they found the man suffering from gunshot wounds and immediately began providing first aid. Medics later arrived and continued lifesaving efforts, but sadly, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect was not found at the scene and investigators believe the person responsible fled the area. Des Moines police detectives are working to identify and locate the suspect.
“This remains an active investigation, and further details are unavailable at this time,” police said.
Marine View Drive South was closed between South 222nd Street and South 223rd Street while detectives investigated and processed the scene. Police are asking drivers to avoid the area and use alternate routes.
