A new parenting toolkit shaped by the voices of immigrant and refugee families will be introduced during a community gathering at Highline College on Saturday, July 11.

According to Pathways to Progress Alliance, a community-based nonprofit serving immigrant and refugee families, youth and childcare providers across South Seattle and South King County, the event is expected to bring together approximately 150 to 200 attendees, including families, childcare providers, youth, community partners and local leaders.

The event, titled Rooted in Community: From Community Voice to Community Action, will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Mt. Townsend Room, Building 8, at Highline College (map below). The main program is scheduled from approximately 4 to 7 p.m.

The centerpiece of the event will be the public introduction of a culturally-grounded parenting toolkit developed through conversations with immigrant and refugee families and childcare providers over the past year. The project was funded through King County Best Starts for Kids.

According to Pathways to Progress Alliance, the conversations focused on what families need to raise and support children while honoring culture, language, identity and belonging.

The organization said the initiative is intended to highlight immigrant and refugee families not simply as recipients of services, but as leaders in developing solutions for their communities.

The event will also feature cultural performances, youth recognition, community remarks and dinner.

Organizers said the gathering is designed to celebrate the knowledge, experience and leadership of parents, childcare providers and young people while sharing the new resource with the broader community.
