The Red Robin restaurant in Des Moines is expected to close Sept. 3, according to public notices and Facebook posts shared about the closure.
The Des Moines location has been part of the community for nearly 30 years, serving generations of families, friends and local diners with Red Robin favorites including its Whiskey River® BBQ Burger.
“For nearly 30 years, Des Moines has let us be a part of your lives and celebrations,” one online post said. “Saying goodbye is heavy, especially after this past year.”
The Des Moines Red Robin appears to be operated by Red Robin International Inc., though the company announced earlier this year that it planned to sell 30 company-owned Washington and western Idaho restaurants to Evergreen Dining LLC. It was not immediately clear whether the Des Moines location was included in that completed transfer.
As of Friday, Aug. 28, the closure had not been publicly announced by Red Robin beyond signs reportedly posted inside the restaurant, and no reason for the closure has yet been given.
Online posts encouraged customers to visit their favorite bartenders, waiters and waitresses and tip them well before the restaurant closes.
One post praised the restaurant’s employees, saying the team “worked tirelessly” and became a “beautiful family” inside the restaurant’s walls.
“A closing date may end this restaurant’s story, but it will never erase what this team built here or the impact they made along the way,” the post said
It was not immediately clear what, if anything, will replace Red Robin at the Marine View Drive site. Public real estate listings show the restaurant space has been marketed for lease, while earlier sales materials described the property as a potential owner-user or redevelopment opportunity, including possible mixed-use development. No incoming tenant has been publicly announced.
