UPDATE: The Rotary Club of Des Moines and Normandy Park has postponed its planned Sept. 16 presentation on Des Moines history and the former Masonic Retirement Home, after scheduled speaker VJ Kopacki became ill, the club announced.

Kopacki had been scheduled to speak about the history of Des Moines, including the Masonic Retirement Home, at the club’s weekly meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at the Des Moines Theater.

The club said it will announce a new presentation date once it is confirmed.

“We wish VJ a speedy recovery and look forward to welcoming her when she is rescheduled,” Rotarian Bettina Carey told The Waterland Blog.

A meeting will still be held at Noon Wednesday, and guests are welcome to attend, according to the Rotary Club.

“If you’ve been curious about Rotary, this is a great opportunity to join us, meet local community members, and learn more about the work happening throughout our community,” Carey added.
