The Skate Park at the Des Moines Field House has some new murals painted on the concrete structures, thanks to the Des Moines Legacy Foundation.
The project was the idea of the local artist and skateboarder, Benji Pierson. He teamed up with Fred Andrews of the Legacy Foundation and they worked with the City of Des Moines to make it happen. The Legacy Foundation was able to fund the project with a grant from 4Culture of King County.
Benji pulled together three outstanding muralists who have worked on projects around the country. The artist, Ryan Henry Ward aka ‘Henry’, is recognized as one of Seattle’s most prolific and popular muralists. Quincy Quigg is another local artist and his graphics can be seen on walls, skate boards, and snow boards all over the country. Jay Seidler aka ‘Jaymeer’, has been painting murals nationwide, creating videos, and designing cool graphics for over 30 years.
The event started on Friday, July 18, 2025, and featured music by the famous DJ, Sean the Shaman.
There were also art projects for young artists that included chalk drawing and instruction in mural painting.
The project was completed with the final touches by the artists and more painting by the students on Friday, Aug. 8.
