The Des Moines Marina has begun its long-planned dock replacement project, launching work on three piers to improve safety, accessibility and environmental standards.

Construction will replace aging docks on L, M and N piers with modern structures in phases designed to minimize disruption for tenants. Work on N dock starts this month, followed by M and L docks through early 2026.

Marina officials said the timeline remains on track thanks to coordination between city staff, contractors and tenants who volunteered to temporarily relocate their vessels.

“We’re grateful for the cooperation of our Marina community throughout this complex project,” the City said.

The City said that new docks will feature upgraded utilities including power, potable water, and fire suppression systems, aligning with state and federal regulatory requirements.

Officials said the improvements will benefit both tenants and visitors while supporting the marina’s long-term sustainability.

The city plans to welcome boaters back to their new slips as each phase finishes.
