Bright and early Wednesday morning (Dec. 16), 14 Officers – including Command Staff and 5 Fire Fighters – along with 15 ‘in need’ families (including 34 children) gathered at the Redondo Fred Meyer for the Des Moines Police Foundation’s 1st-ever “Shop With a Cop” event.
Families were greeted with breakfast provided by Fred Meyer, Santa and many amazing volunteers. After a brief informational session, the Cops and Fire Fighters were off to shop for their families.
The smiles, giggles and joy were infectious throughout the store! Thank you to everyone involved for your hard work and dedication! Special thanks to Fred Meyer (Store Director, Kristy Bowers), South King Fire & Rescue, Des Moines Police Department, Life Point Church Volunteers, Des Moines Waterfront Farmers Market and Pat Nardo for helping us raise the funds we needed!
Ellie Hooman, DMPF Treasurer and Secretary stated, “It was a very touching event. Something we will definitely do again.”
Chief George Delgado stated, “This was an event unlike any other. I am so proud and humbled by the many acts of love and kindness. I am so proud to be this department’s and community’s chief! Thank you all so much.”
