The City of Des Moines will host its annual Veterans Day ceremony on Tuesday, Nov. 11, at Steven J. Underwood Memorial Park to honor the service and sacrifice of the nation’s veterans.

The event begins with a reception at 10:30 a.m., followed by the ceremony at 11:11 a.m. at the park, located at 21800 20th Ave. S. in Des Moines (map below). The ceremony will feature the posting of colors by Boy Scout Troop 361 and remarks from local veterans Tony Hettler and Pat Nardo.

Attendees will also observe a flag raising and the traditional sound of the bugle, paying tribute to those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

Organizers encourage families, friends, and community members to attend and reflect on the meaning of Veterans Day.

The event is organized by community volunteer Matt Mahoney, with support from local residents, the City of Des Moines, and partners including the Linscotts, Leonards, Wilkins family, Nadya Curtis, Bettina Carey, Tricia Phillips, Randall Williams, and Auntie Irene’s.
