New to the market this year is a young artist named Autumn Bringhurst, whose intriguing way of creating her work has the art community buzzing with enthusiasm. She relies mostly upon colored pencils to bring her ideas into existence. She loves how they lend themselves to fine detailing and expressive lines. However, she also dabbles in oil painting, water colors, pastels, and whatever happens to be lying around that strikes her musings. Since she graduated from the Tacoma School of the Arts she has been keeping her art mostly among family and friends. Being at the Des Moines Waterfront Farmers Market will be her first foray into the world of retail. She hopes to expand eventually into other farmers markets in the Seattle area. “Art for me is a release,” Autumn said. “There is no statement, no significant meaning. I just draw what draws me. It is a way for me to lay hold of the beauty I see around me and entertain my curious mind. I have a fetish for creating small patterning within a broader image as a means of adding interest and I love the use of bold, rich colors. I am most inspired by the union of beauty and strength. I am drawn to images of strong women and the women I see around me day by day. This takes root in the strong woman who raised me and the five spirited young ladies I grew up alongside. My sisters are my pride and joy and the warmth of my heart.” She will start her appearances at the Des Moines Waterfront Farmers Market this coming Saturday, June 15, 2013. Please stop by and say hello and peruse her display of art work. The market is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday thru October at the Des Moines Marina.]]>
