Curious about what lives just beneath the surface of Puget Sound? The City of Des Moines and Friends of Saltwater State Park are once again inviting the public to take a closer look — quite literally — during a series of Low Tide Beach Exploration events happening throughout July and August.

These free, family-friendly events pair visitors with knowledgeable park naturalists for a hands-on look at tidepool ecosystems during some of the lowest tides of the season.

Attendees can expect to encounter sea stars, crabs, anemones, and a wide variety of marine life.

“Come explore the wild side of the beach and connect with the marine life that calls Puget Sound home,” organizers said.

Held at Saltwater State Park in Des Moines, the exploration sessions are open to all ages — no registration required.

Participants are encouraged to wear sturdy shoes that can get wet, and to bring their curiosity.
