A fatal, fiery single-vehicle accident early Saturday morning, Nov. 2, 2024 led to the temporary closure of northbound lanes on I-5 near 272nd Street, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash, which claimed the life of an unidentified driver.
Troopers said that at approximately 1:41 a.m., a 2006 Volvo XC90 was traveling northbound on I-5 when it veered off the roadway, hitting a pole on the right shoulder.
The vehicle became fully engulfed in flames upon impact, resulting in a fatality at the scene.
Emergency crews responded promptly, closing the roadway for over three hours to conduct an investigation and clear the scene.
Identification of the deceased is pending, and it remains unclear whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
Washington State Patrol is working to determine what factors may have contributed to the accident.
