Residents of Des Moines can take advantage of a free Shredding Event hosted by the Des Moines Senior Advisory Committee on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Activity Center located at 2045 S. 216th Street (map below).
This community service aims to provide a safe and secure way for individuals to dispose of sensitive documents, such as receipts, bills, bank statements, and cancelled checks.
The shredding service will also accept file folders and envelopes, and participants are allowed to bring up to 10 file-sized boxes of paper.
Materials not accepted at the event include cardboard, newspapers, boxes, X-rays, and plastic.
The shredding is being offered at no cost to residents, and no appointments are necessary.
City officials are urging residents to participate in the event as a means of protecting their personal information and reducing the risk of identity theft.
The event is open to all residents of Des Moines, and attendees are asked to limit their shredding to a maximum of 10 boxes per person.
